Major Harris Named To College Football Hall of Fame

Former West Virginia University quarterback Major Harris has been named to the College Football Hall of Fame, Class of 2009.

Harris was named Thursday afternoon as one of 16 players to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame this summer in South Bend, Indiana. He joins his former coach Don Nehlen and former linebacker Sam Huff as the only Mountaineers in the Hall.

Harris was named First Team All-America in 1989, finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting in 1989 and fifth in 1989 and became the first player in NCAA history to rush for more than 2,000 career yards and pass for more than 5,000.

Pineville native Curt Warner was also selected as a member of this year’s class. Warner played his college ball at Penn State where the running back was named First Team All-American in 1981 and led PSU to 1982 national championship. He was named the Most Outstanding Offensive Player in 1980 and 1982 Fiesta Bowl. Warner finished career with 11 season, 10 career, 14 bowl and 42 school records.

Other notable members of the Class of 2009 include Notre Dame wide receiver Tim Brown, Ohio State linebacker Chris Speilman and Nebraska Defensive End Grant Wistrom.
