WVU releases non-conference hoops schedule
West Virginia University has announced the 2009-10 men’s basketball non-conference schedule, including two games — The Citadel on Nov. 24 and Marshall on Jan. 20 — in Charleston.
The Mountaineers will play 12 non-conference contests, including home games against Ohio State, Ole Miss, Duquesne, Coppin State and Loyola College.
According to the school, West Virginia will open the regular season Nov. 15 at home against Loyola. The Mountaineers will play two home exhibition games against the University of Charleston and Mountain State. Those dates will be announced in September.
WVU will play road games at Purdue and Cleveland State.
West Virginia will also travel to Anaheim, Calif., in late November for three games in the 76 Classic, beginning with Long Beach State on Thanksgiving. The Mountaineers will face Texas A&M or Clemson on the second day and wrap up the tournament against either Minnesota, Butler, UCLA or Portland.
“This is probably as good a non-conference schedule as we’ve played in a long time,” said Mountaineer coach Bob Huggins via the school. “We believe this is a non-conference schedule that our fans will enjoy in person and on television.”
The Big East portion of the schedule will be announced in September.
