UConn coach thanks WVU, fans for support
Connecticut football coach Randy Edsall wrote a letter to West Virginia University and its fans, thanking them for their support in the wake of the death of Huskies football player Jasper Howard.
The following is the letter in its entirety.
Dear West Virginia University Community Members and Football Fans:
On behalf of the entire University of Connecticut football family, I would like to say thank you for all your support and appreciation at our game last Saturday and the week leading into it.
The response that you gave our team before and after the game was tremendous and greatly appreciated. The pregame moment of silence and team handshake was the most moving experience I have ever had in my 29 years of coaching football.
The UConn football team lost a great teammate and friend when Jasper Howard was taken from us. We still have some hurt inside of us here at UConn, but what all of you did at West Virginia made us feel better.
I would like to especially thank my friend Bill Stewart for all his support during this period.
Thank you again to everyone and may God bless you all.
Sincerely,
Randy Edsall
Head Football Coach
University of Connecticut
