WVU ranked No. 8 in preseason AP basketball poll
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia University’s men’s basketball team has been ranked No. 8 in the preseason Associated Press poll, announced today.
WVU is behind just Kansas, Michigan State, Texas, Kentucky, Villanova, North Carolina and Purdue. The Mountaineers were one of five Big East teams included in the poll.
Also, West Virginia was ranked No. 9 in the USA Today ESPN coaches’ poll. It marked the highest ranking ever in that poll.
The Mountaineers were 23-12 last season. Coach Bob Huggins returns what has been called the best forward combo in the Big East in Da’Sean Butler and Devin Ebanks.
