Huggins credits Bowden with assist

MORGANTOWN – There are probably more logical people to talk to about football coaches than Bob Huggins. But wouldn’t you just know that he’d be able to seamlessly – and interestingly – weigh in on a couple of the hottest topics in that sport anyway?

As Bobby Bowden prepares to end his coaching career in a few weeks against West Virginia in the Gator Bowl, Huggins credits the Florida State coach with jump-starting his own career.

And as Cincinnati’s Brian Kelly packs up and leaves Cincinnati for Notre Dame, well, he’s not exactly the first high-profile coach to endure a messy divorce with the Bearcats, now is he?

First, there’s Bowden.

Even playing six degrees of separation, it’s hard to connect him with Huggins, save for the obvious fact that both coached the high-profile sports at West Virginia. Aside from that, Bowden left WVU in 1975, just after Huggins arrived on campus as a transfer basketball player from Ohio University. So it’s not as if the two were buddies.
